Cherimoya – An Exotic Peruvian Fruit

We would like to educate our guests about Peru and its many fascinating native fruits and vegetables, as well as the dishes we offer in our restaurants. Although we do not currently have Cherimoya on the menu, it is an interesting Peruvian fruit. It is native to the Andean highlands of Peru, and has been enjoyed since Ancient times. Some people call it the custard apple, because it has a sweet consistency. Mark Twain once called it “the most delicious fruit known to men.” Cherimoyas are generally green in color and should be slightly soft to the touch when ripe, similar to an avocado. They are used in traditional Peruvian desserts such as Manjar de Chirimoya, a sweet cream mixed with chunks of this delicious fruit. If you have the pleasure of going to the beautiful country of Peru, try a Cherimoya along with other tasty Peruvian food!
