Ceviche in the Summertime

June 2nd, 2010

Summer may officially start in a few weeks, but it certainly seems like it’s come early this year. After this beautiful Memorial Day weekend, we are all ready for the beach, the pool, and more sunshine. And of course, the perfect summer lunch or dinner, Ceviche! This cold seafood dish is light and fresh, and a great choice on a hot day. Try one of our specialties, Ceviche de Camarones (shrimp), Pescado (fresh fish of the day), or Mixto (a variety of seafood and fish, including octopus and mussels) and you will not be disappointed. Peruvians are very proud of their excellent Ceviche, which is one of the most popular dishes at our Peruvian restaurant in Norwalk.

Chicken Noodle Soup is Peruvian Food?

April 5th, 2010

Have you ever tried Sopa de Gallina? It may sound unusual if you are unfamiliar with Peruvian food, but it’s actually something you’ve had before – chicken noodle soup. This classic food is different with a Peruvian twist, however. We serve it with a hard boiled egg, one large piece of chicken, and long noodles. So it may be different from the kind of soup you’re used to eating, but it is delicious! Ask your server for the Sopa del Dia, or Soup of the Day, and try Sopa de Gallina when you get the chance.

Peruvian Food in the News Again

March 8th, 2010

The Wisconsin State Journal featured an article about Peruvian food this week. Chris Martell starts off his article by writing, “Peruvians have begun to realize that they have a resource as valuable as oil is to the Middle East. Their cuisine.” Of course, at Fiesta Limena we know this is true. Peruvian cuisine is one of the best kept secrets in the culinary world, at least in the United States. But now, more and more Peruvian restaurants are popping up across the country, and Americans are getting a taste of this fabulous food.

Peruvian Food in CT

February 16th, 2010

When you’re looking for an interesting new restaurant to try in Fairfield County, Fiesta Limena is the perfect choice. If you have never tried Peruvian food, bring a few friends so you can all order different things. Lomo Saltado is a customer favorite, with stir fried strips of steak, rice and fries. Order it with extra juice if you like dipping your fries. You might also want to try Chaufa, Peruvian fried rice, or Tallarines, the Peruvian version of lo mein. If you’re more adventurous and enjoy seafood, ceviche is a great option. It is a raw fish dish that is “cooked” in a citrus marinade. The result is a light, fresh meal. Any of these options would be a great introduction to Peruvian cuisine.

Pisco at Our CT Restaurante Peruano

February 9th, 2010

We celebrated Pisco Day at Fiesta Limea CT restaurante Peruano on Saturday. Along with giving out free Pisco samples, we introduced three new Pisco mixed drinks that will now be available seven days a week. If you have not tried Pisco yet, start with a Pisco Sour, the national drink of Peru. Pisco is different from other brandies because it is distilled from grapes instead of wine, giving it a rich flavor. And of course the best Pisco comes from Peru! One brand, Tabernero, has been distilling wine and Pisco in the Chinca Valley for generations. We are proud to serve Tabernero wine and Pisco at Fiesta Limena.

A Norwalk CT Restaurant Serving Authentic Peruvian Food

January 27th, 2010

If you have never tried Peruvian food, you may be curious as to what it is like. Often, the only South American food many people have tried is Mexican, so they wonder whether Peruvian might be similar. The answer is that Peruvian food  has been influenced by other cultures, but is ultimately its own specific cuisine. It is not similar to Mexican food – many popular Peruvian dishes are actually influenced by Chinese and Japanese food, and others have European influences. This is due to Peru’s interesting history, which involved many immigrants who contributed to the local cuisine. One must experience this diverse cuisine to understand how it evolved over time, and to see what authentic Peruvian food truly is. At Fiesta Limena, our Norwalk CT restaurant, we serve authentic homestyle Peruvian food to people who have been eating it their whole lives, and those who are trying it for the first time. With many regular customers, we are proud to serve this special cuisine and to share it with those who are just learning about it.
